I thought the group might enjoy this piece from today’s St. Augustine Record about Janis Owens and her Florida Cracker success!    It is nice to read of writers who meet challenges and achieve success.  This makes me want to complete my longtime project of my family’s cookbook/memoir.  Check out her blog too!

You can do it, you can do it!!!

Hello everyone!

The role of a writer is not to say what we all can say, but what we are unable to say. ~Anaïs Nin

Hope you had a good meeting in May!  I didn’t make it.  Too much Memorial Day stuff going on at our house.  I hope you all learned some new grammar hints from the presentation.  My website has a new look, and I hope you’ll take a look here and give me your comments.  I will be revising some content in the coming weeks with a new focus on developing web content.

Also I wanted to share this post with any of our aspiring freelancers8 Easy Steps to Warm up Cold Calls.  This post was written by Jennifer Woodard as a guest post on the Writing4Effect blog.  I have directed you to this blog a few times in the past with some great information.  Check it out by following the link.

I”ve asked Jeff if we could possibly do a session at one of our meetings on freelancing advice.  If you’re interested, let us know by posting a response to this post.  It would be great if more of our group would get involved in conversation on this blog.  Remember this is Your Blog as a participant in FWA/Palm Coast!

Have a good month.

Know Your Worth! « Writing 4 Effect.

Hello gang

I thought this guest post on Writing4Effect was worth posting here. Remember what you’re worth. Don’t sell yourself short. And remember what Samantha says about staying connected with other writers. Network, network, network and be sure to stay involved with your writing groups – including our great Palm Coast Chapter of The Florida Writers’ Association.

Hi FWA/Palm Coasters!

Check out this site about writing

I ran across this site/blog today while I was doing some research on how to charge for press releases.  Although some of the info is a bit older, I thought it was a useful site for any of you that are looking to do writing on small projects or proofreading.  I especially found the survey on “what to charge” interesting at this page  This survey seems to be from a few years ago, but I don’t think the world of writing has changed all that much with the economic condition we have been challenged with, so the rates are probably pretty much the same.

I think it is important to always keep in mind our geographic location when pricing services.  For instance, a former student that worked for our department at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University is now in New York City.  In addition to her regular banking job at a pretty high level, she has started a resume writing service.  At $95 per page with a 3-page minimum, she’s gets a nice bit of income for a resume; however, as we all know, Palm Coast is definitely not New York City, in spite of the fact that many former New Yorkers call this home!  Now we all know there’s no way we can charge like that locally, but I think it is important to be aware of our own skill level and not to sell ourselves short.  We have a skill that many folks are willing to pay for.  Remember that.

Just like your website should have a “call to action” on each page, so it is with a blog post too, so I am calling you to action.  Tell me what you think and leave a comment!!

Happy writing!!!

I am sure I have mentioned this blog before, but Judy Cullins has some phenomenal information and suggestions for increasing exposure of your books through LinkedIn.  Click on the title above or the link below to see her latest post.  As a huge fan of LinkedIn ( the groups are extremely helpful – so get involved in one or two or more!), I find her research to be a great resource for all of us and thought many of you would find it of interest.

Let me know what you want to see here.  I try to post interesting articles and posts that I find.   Lately I  haven’t seen much traffic to the FWA Palm Coast blog.  I have been really busy myself with writing web content for Marlin Consulting and with project management for them along with working on my own cookbook/memoir,  but hope to still have time to blog here occasionally.  I would love to see others get involved here!  Just let me know if you want to contribute to this blog and I’ll get with Jeff to hook you up.  If you are visiting today, be sure to see my post from February 27 and take part in the poll I posted there.

Remember the more you get out there, the more you grow!!  See you all soon.
